About SDC
STEEL Dance Company, founded in May 2001 by two former UT students, Summyr
Miller and Destinee Walker, unites a group of ambitious dancers who are
dedicated to fostering an energetic and high-powered professional jazz dance
company to benefit the UT and Austin communities. Regardless of the genre, SDC
dancers always combine their strong technical background with their
entertaining and electrifying dynamics.
The company is open to all UT students, and is comprised of both dance and
non-dance majors. SDC dancers perform on average seven shows per semester and
travel all over the Austin and Central Texas area. Current members also
participate in clinics, auditions, outreach events, fundraisers, and
choreographic endeavors.
SDC's first four seasons propelled the new company into the artistic community
with a multitude of productions that brought audiences to the edge of their
seats. Our first four seasons were extremely successful, with performances
including Project Linking the Arts, MoM Fest, Texas Revue, Trail of Lights,
Parent's Weekend Pep Rally and Breakfast, Dance Marathon, Explore UT,
StudyBreaks Fashion Show at Spiro's, Longhorn Honors, as well as guest
performances with Dance Spectrum, AIDS Services of Austin, The Ransom Notes,
and UT Dance Team. Furthermore, the company was honored by the UT Leadership
Board with the title of Best New Organization in 2002.
Our hard work and dedication was revealed at the end of each season with four
very successful full-scale, self-produced shows, Heart and Mind, Sole to Soul,
Breaking Realms, Inside/Out, Inspire, Dear Life, and Fly. Embarking upon our eighth
season, under the leadership of Artistic Directors Alit Krohn and Kelly Campbell,
General Manager Erin Mallory, Publicity Manager Ellen Ko, and Financial
Manager Lindsey Miller, SDC hopes to continue to shower both UT and Austin with its
unique style and push the boundaries of dance physically, mentally, and thematically.
